International Court of Justice (ICJ)

Established on 26 June 1945, the International Court of Justice is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations. The headquarters of the International Court of Justice is in The Hague, Netherlands. It consists of 15 judges elected from the General Assembly and the Security Council. The judges are chosen from different countries, so that the different legal systems in the world are represented.

The jurisdiction of the Court covers cases brought to it by parties to an international dispute and matters specifically provided for in the UN Charter or in applicable international agreements. The Statute of the International Court of Justice is an integral part of the UN Charter (UN Charter) and determines the working principles of the Court of Justice.
